CHA/Ps received formal federal recognition and congressional funding in 1968 and today, they function as part of a regional team to assess and provide emergent, acute, and chronic medical care in remote Alaskan communities.
Bringing care closer to home is not just a benefit to the psychological well-being of the patient, it is also more efficient and cost-effective. The success of the Community Health Aide model formed the beginnings of a model of care that has expanded to other areas of healthcare in the Alaska Tribal Health System including the Dental Health Aide Program and the Behavioral Health Aide Program.
The model is now being implemented in other parts of the country as well. The use of the term “community health aide” is often used in a generic sense to refer to all health aide programs.
The Arkansas Community Health Worker Association (ARCHWA) is a professional association designed to support community health workers across Arkansas in their mission to improve health outcomes and health care.
ARCHWA works with it's members to achieve a variety of objectives including:
Who We Are AzCHOW is a statewide organization of community-based advocates. AzCHOW provides an opportunity for Community Health Workers (CHWs) to speak with a collective voice, and has been advocating for the work of CHWs in Arizona since 2001. We lead through resource sharing, partnership development, education, outreach, health promotion, and disease prevention strategies to improve the health of Arizona residents.
What We Do AzCHOW provides an opportunity for Community Health Workers (CHWs) to develop a collective voice in addressing relevant CHW workforce issues. Our key focus is uniting CHWs of all disciplines in building CHW capacity to address CHW workforce policy and sustainability issues that impact our professional development and our capacity to meet the needs of the communities we serve. AzCHOW creates partnerships to build upon organizational capacities and strengths while serving the under-served and at-risk population within our state, as well as addressing relevant political and policy issues.
Our Mission The Mission of the Arizona Community Health Outreach Workers’ Network (AzCHOW) is to provide a forum for community health workers to inform and unite culturally diverse community health workers of all disciplines, and to strengthen the professional development of the field through resource sharing and collaborative opportunities with community, government, health and educational institutions. Information for Community Health Workers and CHW Workforce
The CT AHEC Program has been involved with CHWs since 2000, when it conducted the first statewide survey of Connecticut’s CHWs and their employers. Since then, CT AHEC, with Southwestern AHEC as the lead, has worked with numerous partners to promote, train, and develop the CHW workforce. These efforts at development received a significant boost when CT AHEC was selected in 2014 to lead the CHW component of Connecticut’s State Innovation Model (SIM) Test Grant.
In 2016, the SIM-CHW Advisory Committee was created and charged with developing policies to promote the CHW workforce. Over the course of SIM, the committee adapted a definition for CHWs in CT, defined roles and skills, and ultimately developed recommendations for certification. In 2019, a bill incorporating these recommendations (Public Act 19-117) was signed into law declaring that, starting on January 1, 2020, there will a certification program for CHWs to be administered by the Department of Public Health (DPH).
The Florida Community Health Worker Coalition (FCHWC) is a tax exempt nonprofit educational organization considered one of the most effective voices in Florida championing for the advancement of the community health worker (CHW) profession. To promote its mission and plans, the Coalition considers input from a variety of stakeholders through conference calls, focus groups, surveys of members, and by regions and Annual CHW Coalition Summits.
Our Mission.
A statewide partnership dedicated to the support and promotion of the Community Health Worker profession in Florida.
Our Vision.
The vision of the Coalition is that CHWs are empowered and supported to build and promote health in our communities.
INCHWA is bringing together those in the community who work daily to encourage the health and well-being of their neighbors. Although they are called by many different job titles and roles, CHWs are always a trusted member of their community - sought after sources of information and assistance by those in need.
Often unnoticed, they play a vital role in today's healthcare system. Their work has been documented and proven effective to break down cultural barriers for clients and health care providers. Their ability to provide education and resource assistance has led to improved health outcomes for patients and cost savings to the healthcare provider.
INCHWA is uniting those that recognize the importance of Community Health Workers in today's health care system and giving them a voice to promote their presence and their value as a community that cares.

LACHON is an association for community health and outreach workers. Our mission is to support community health workers while advocating for improvements in community health.
The Louisiana Community Health Outreach Network was established in 2010 by a group of community health workers and allies who wanted to create a space for community health workers to support one another and the profession. We have been hosting monthly community health worker meetings since then.
Our accomplishments include holding an annual conference since 2013, presenting at national professional association meetings, conducting community-partnered participatory research, informing development of community health worker training curricula and standards, contributing to developing policy to support the workforce, and holding professional development seminars for community health workers.
